In Indiana, FSSA'S Disability Determination Bureau Leads Nation in Productivity
For the fourth consecutive year, Indiana leads the nation in providing accurate and timely decisions on disability claims, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). The Disability Determination Bureau (DDB), a division within the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), was also recognized for having the highest productivity per work year and the lowest overall processing time in the United States.
"Our team is committed to providing quality customer service and exceeding expectations," said Peter Bisbecos, Director of the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services. "We strive to make fair and accurate medical decisions on each disability claim that is evaluated."
In fiscal year 2007, the DDB reviewed approximately 83,600 disability applications. With the projected increase in disability claims in the coming years, the DDB's timeliness is vital.
In 2007, Jo Anne Barnhart, SSA commissioner, awarded Indiana the Commissioner's Citation. Despite increased workloads, Barnhart acknowledged the DDB's "exemplary performance in accuracy, timeliness and productivity in providing exceptional service to the disabled citizens of Indiana."
